Childhood Memories

Especially for late 80's and early 90's born

Born to a middle class family
Watching how it is woven
In a thread of silent sacrifices
Made each day and every moment
These Sacrifices are not made out of force
Nor with a feeling of martyrdom
They emerge out of sheer love and affection
Without any expectation of return
As a child you never feel it
But looking back it becomes so evident

How Maa would rise before us
Bear the tantrums
Sending us to school
Was her true Triumph
How she would restrain her aspirations
To fulfil our small wishes
Denying herself
So she could buy something for us

Dad would conceal his emotions
Hide his tensions
Slog day and night
Earn not for himself but for the family

Childhood memories are about a lot more
Times when happiness had a different meaning
How one rupee pocket money
Could buy all happiness
How a two room house
Appeared so spacious
How even electricity cuts
Seemed blessed times for hide and seek
How ramp, stairs, balcony
Were favorite hangout places
How water logged streets
Were best times to test paper boats

How summer breaks from schools
Felt like parole from a prison
Favorite time for Nani Ghar
How doing school homework
Felt like a punishment
How siblings
seemed like our biggest enemies
How milk frozen ice cream
Felt like a true delicacy
How birthday's actually felt like a birthday
And Gifts were opened before guest could even exit

How festivals were actually festivals
Throwing balloons
A week before Holi
And bursting crackers
A month before Deepavali
How fasting
Were best times to eat
Going to Ramleela
Was a eagerly waited affair
How picnics & Family trip
Was all one cried and cried for

How Raja Vazir Chor Sibahi
Was a favorite timepass
How watching Ramayana and Shaktiman
Were fun filled moments
How playing in the scorching sun
Sweating head to toe
And winning a small  game
Would give true feeling of accomplishment

Happiness in those times
Lied in small things
It was all about friends, family and surroundings

Childhood is a stage
When mind is not inflicted
With desires of power and money
But is all driven
By true human emotions

And thus
Whenever you try to look back
Through the lanes of memories
You get hooked to childhood
For those are the best times of life
